L.B.'s Twitter Round up #6
Fake based-politics, no reason at Reason, and communist apologetics
Twitter is where I’m most active on social media. Here are some highlights from the past week with some commentary!
Ok so this first one is a random retweet, but as someone who is just around the 5’ 9” - 5’ 10” range I have experienced this in real life. Dating (whether we admit it or not) is about selection, and so isn’t it interesting that the same height on a dating profile looks different in real life.

I just wrapped up an episode with James Jenneman over at Blackbirdpodcast.com covering the topic in this tweet from James Lindsay. If you’re interested I’d recommend you go listen to it. (currently behind a paywall).

The more Marxism I read, the more I'm convinced that no one should read Marxism until they've undergone a thorough intellectual vaccination against Communism.Little mindset piece for you.

I’ve been taking shots at the new based-politics.com for a few reasons, this aesthetic critique is not very substansive, but honestly the whole concept is dull. Not because either of them are bad writers or uninteresting, but because of their determination to remake something they know nothing about. The reality is going after larger creators helps this project grow, it just so happens I get really annoyed by corporate libertarian types these days because they have no incentive to push ideas anywhere. It’s about raking in what you can right now.

Somebody tried to get me to explain why Catholic monks and nuns are not the same thing as communists. As you can see I called it “communist apologetics.” While I wouldn’t engage with him, let’s quickly dismantle the idea.
Not every order of nuns or monks live in common ownership of goods.
your standard parish priest earns a salary and owns their own things like a salaried employee.
Both communism and Catholicism have universal views of humanity but that is where the similarities end ideologically.
communism set out to make man free from his nature
Catholics want to constrain man because they understand his nature
There’s also the tens of millions dead at the hands of communism, not even The Crusades were as bloody despite.

@TheLBMuniz @GopMises so a monastery or convent is not run as a communist economic system? Explain how they are not. You are confusing an economic system with a political system.Don’t underestimate the power of a symbol. Gorsuch not wearing a mask was precisely that.

CNBC @CNBC
Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch refused to wear a mask despite a request from Chief Justice John Roberts over fellow Justice Sonia Sotomayor's Covid concerns, a report said https://t.co/thQWptPp8NI can remember listening to Joe Walsh in my car on the drive home from work or school. He was a tea party “patriot” who was either always a phony or was broken by Trump, not sure I’ll ever know for sure. I actually met Walsh a couple of times, it’s been strange to watch him completely transform himself. Anyway, Pedro Gonzalez is great and I think did a fantastic “dunk”

Joe Walsh @WalshFreedom
I say this as a white guy who loves this country: This country needs to have an honest, tough conversation about race. And it’s time for us white Americans to do more listening and to feel uncomfortable. There has been some good news lately, but it’s not over. Don’t forget that.

The NYPD are arresting children in a museum because they didn’t show their papers or wearing the approved garment. I’d encourage you to click through and watch the video if you haven’t seen it.
This is America.

NYPD arrest multiple people including a young child, for trying to enter a museum (@AMNH) without proof of vaccination https://t.co/Zh17z3Ehg6I honestly didn’t think when I started writing this newsletter that I would be making it a point to publicly criticize an organization like Reason Magazine. But there has been a perceivable shift and growing divide between the broader liberty movement and these NYC and DC based publications. They simply don’t bother to offer any kind of substantive libertarian analysis when it comes to government lockdown measures.

reason @reason
COVID-19 booster shots are 90 percent effective at keeping Americans out of the hospital, says the CDC. https://t.co/elOA7FblTSGreat summarization of the divide I see worth talking about.
