The Been Awake chat for Better Sensemaking

Right now, you can only comment publicly on my posts if you’re a paid subscriber. That’s why I was really excited when Substack launched their chat feature a few weeks ago. I also got really excited when I saw their app was now also available on Android. I want to be able to connect with you good people since you are the ones who have done what I asked - subscribed with your email address.

Personally, I’ll plan to use this space as something between my Twitter feed and a private group chat. I’ll start conversations, ask questions, and post interesting articles and content from other creators I find interesting, and in return I hope to hear your thoughts and questions. Some threads will be behind the paywall, but most of what I plan to post in here will be for everyone who subscribes to the Been Awake Substack. Below is the copy they provided that includes instructions on how to get the app so you have access to the chat!

I’ve really enjoyed the simplicity of Substack’s user interface and how they make it easy for creators to produce. It will be my content home until that multi-million contract comes in from someone else (hint hint substack 😉)

But seriously, thanks for being subscribed I look forward to talking with you in the chat!

Today I’m announcing a brand new addition to my Substack publication: the Been Awake subscriber chat.

This is a conversation space in the Substack app that I set up exclusively for my subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion.

To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.

How to get started

  1. Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.

Get app

  1. Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.

  1. That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.

I probably won't do the group chat because another one of those is the last thing I need, but I recommend the app just for the purpose of reading. It's way better than the web interface and infinitely better than my previous method of consuming Substack, the email inbox. (These little discoveries are waiting for you on the other side of 40, kids!)
