The future is bright for The Free
Happy New Year
As I write this, I'm sitting (well leaning) on a high top in Nashville. Most of the time I'm a homebody, even when I'm on the road for work I'll often be in my hotel room enjoying the company of my own thoughts.
It’s important to mark occasions like the new year. Some people would argue that when the new year happens is arbitrary, but they miss the point. We NEED ritual, we NEED to mark important events in order to be human. That's why I don’t miss a wedding, and why I'm in Nashville to have some fun with my friends. As it happens, I hope the same for you.
We live in times that will be written about in history books. While the powers that be have spent countless dollars and capital to convince you not to gather with your friends and family, we have paid them no mind because we know they are wrong to deny our humanity. That's really what someone like Fauci does when he dictates you shouldn't see your family for Christmas, he denies your humanity.
I’m very excited about the future.
Are there troubled waters ahead? Absolutely, in fact they might be the hardest times humans have experienced since the dawn of the industrial age. Even so, for those of us who are prepared, who are ready to face what is to come - there will be a brighter day.
The mission of the Been Awake project is Better Sensemaking. What I endeavor to do in my newsletter and on my podcast is give you a better frame to analyze the world around you. More specifically, Been Awake is about giving you the tools to understand why the news is a cycle.
There's a song you know, even if you don't know the words, it's called “Auld Lyne Syne”, or “for the sake of old times”
You probably know how it starts
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang Syne?
We are not static beings. We grow, we change, we evolve. Sometimes that means old acquaintances are forgotten, but to those who stay, we raise a cup and say here’s to you.
So cheers to you, and remember, the future is bright for The Free.
